I bought this Formula 242 SS two weeks ago.. I am very excited because I am upgrading from a 19' bow rider that I bought 2 years ago. I boat on the Upper Chesapeake Bay and I'm excited to be able to explore further south without always being so concerned with what the water conditions are going to be like. I have been looking at boats for about 6 months and I couldn't be happier with the boat I bought and the deal I got. It's not perfect but it was extremely well cared for. The guy I bought it from owned it for 10 years and put a lot of time and money into the boat. Anyway, I know all you guys care about are pics. So here is a link to a slideshow..

Re: My new boat!! Pics inside!

Thanks, I was looking for a boat for a good 8 months, I had a long list of features the boat had to have.. This boat has everything that was on my list... I watched this boat for a few months because it was out of my price range, but the owner kept slowly lowering the price until it was with my budget.

And to make things even better, I have a buyer for my old boat and I never even listed it for sale!!!

It's going to be a long winter!!

Thanks, I was obsessed with checking the classifieds... It was pretty bad! And we found a boat that we thought was, "the one," and we had an appointment to go see it. The boat had been for sale for about a month and the seller told me no one had even come to look at it. But the day before we were supposed to go see it, someone showed up and paid cash for it with no sea trial.. But everything happens for a reason.. :)

I got one of those boats too. (1991 242 SS) Mine is Red/Gray stripes.

I recall seeing that particular boat on the boat listing sites and also seeing the price go down as you mentioned. ( I occasionally check the market for boats similar to mine)

The previous owner put a lot of restoration into that boat as the engine, upholstery and instrument panel have been replaced/upgraded.

You will like that boat, it is awesome in a 2-3 foot chop, and can get you home in the bigger stuff as well.

I plan on selling mine next year to buy a bigger boat, but I will sure miss it.

Yeah, the 242 is a great boat for the Chesapeake, it's big enough to allow me to explore pretty far south, but it's small enough I can afford the gas..

Are you going to get a Formula?

The seller was upgrading to a larger Formula, 35' +... He was working with a 200k budget.. Must be nice...

I was burning about 6 gallons per hour overall, which included getting out of the harbor at trolling speeds, etc. If I do more water sports, etc then it is more gallons per hour, but I never really kept track. At one point I did figure that it gets 2 miles per galloon at cruising speeds. Eventhough gas is expensive, it still is only a fraction of the overall operating and annual maintenance cost. I keep my boat in the water and have to make sure it has high-end bottom paint, etc.

Once I sell, which may not be until next year, my plan is to get a boat in the 30 foot range with twin outboard motors. Having the outdrive (of an I/O) sit in the water all season long was getting to be a drag, as I would have to paint the Stainless prop with anti-fouling paint, etc. So, my preference is to get a bigger boat with outboard engines.

I had considered a Formula 330SS, but it would have the issues that I am trying to avoid.

Anyway, you will like the 242SS, I wish mine had a bimini and enclosure panels, not sure if yours has those, but it would be a great addition.

Beautiful boat with a great reputation, congrats! I just finished designing and building out a new dash for a Formula 382 and it was so well designed to begin with that it was easy to get the effect I wanted without any major reconstruction.

Re: My new boat!! Pics inside!

My good friend had a formula on the Chesapeake near Annapolis and it had twin 454's with exhaust through the swim platform. Can't remember the model but I believe it was in the 24'-26' range.
This boat would move.

The only thing that took getting used to was the separate shifter from the throttle. It took a while to get the hang of parking with it. One click off idle and you shift "Boom" there goes the bottom gears.

Have fun it looks really nice.
