So this is when checking out the classifieds daily for 3 months finally paid off! This beauty popped up for sale a week ago and I was the first person to jump on it! Its a Campion Explorer 165 with a Yamaha F50 (4stroke). The owner was the original owner and he bought it new back in 1995 for just over $16000 and had barely used it, just look how pretty she is!

I cant wait to baby her! I really like this boat because its very wide boat for its class at 85", and has tons of floor space. Benches are really long and can easily fit 2 people per bench, and an extra at the stern by the swim platform. I really like the fact that this boat has removable THICK fiberglass storage bins for fish, with extra hidden storage behind it, its just full of surprises!

It's safe to say I easily got more than what I was looking for as I was in the market for 16-17' a center console and this is what I got, absolutely nothing like what I expected! I never even heard of Campion before but man do they make beautiful boats!

It should be very economical to run. That should be very important since Canadian gas prices are very, very expensive.

Re: My NEW TOY!!!!

Thanks for all your kind words fellas!

She runs great on the water. When I picked her up we were 3 adults (about 570 lbs) and no gear other than safety equipment and about 20 liters of gas, in 10 kph light chop she ran at 31 mph which I think isn't bad at all for a 50hp 4 stroke and 3 adults on board a 1040 pound (boat only) boat...

My brother in laws 15ft sunray with 3 people onboard and a full tank of gas and gear would hit about 28/30 mph with his 50hp merc, and still doesnt have nearly close to as much weight as I did.... but then again his 50hp merc is a 1982 and my yammy is a 1995..

I wonder how she'll run with a bigger motor say 80-100hp, shes rated for a 115hp!!

Next time out I'm going to pay attention to the rpm and speed, and see whats going on prop wise... Previous owner told me $20 in gas would last him 2 days of fishing, and the built in tank has a 98 liter capacity!

Your boat would run great with a 115 hp motor. And it would still be reasonably economical for a boat so fast.

I was in Nova Scotia a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't get over Canadians use of the metric system. With Boston television on cable tv talking Fahrenheit, your temps are in Centigrade. And it takes some getting used to kilometers and liters of fuel. I didn't have any problems, but my wife couldn't ever get the swing of it.

But that $5.20 per gallon gasoline makes one be very aware of a boat's fuel usage.

unless speed is important, keep what you have. that's a good all-purpose family boat you have there. You'll enjoy having all the open space.

Re: My NEW TOY!!!!

LOL a little too clean huh?

I haven't even washed her yet, just imagine! Now as for speed, its not that I'm a speed junky and I wanna go fast, but around here where I fish in the great lakes, they can be very unpredictable and go from mirror top to 5ft swells in just seconds. Not to mention I go quite deep in the lake at times and need the power to haul ***** if it need be, especially with 3 or 4 people on board! So I know a bigger motor is a must for me, its just a matter of what and how much bigger... I like the 4 stroke idea, but I also like the newer 2stroke (etec) and this is going to be a difficult choice for me. It also depends on what I find around here and ofcourse I have to compare pros and cons from both 4stroke and 2stroke. I think the only real 2 stroke I'd go for is the etec since its so great on gas, but other than that it'll just be a 4stroke I'm feeling, maybe a Yamaha again since they seem to be lighter than the rest of the 4strokes?

Any thoughts or advice?

Around here I can flip the Yamaha F50 on my boat for about $3500 easily, especially when you see how clean it is under the cowls, it looks literally BRAND NEW, like not even a stain or spec of dust on it, everything is just shiny and clean, wiring is perfect, rubber perfect, no discoloration or anything! There's a guy in my area selling a beautiful 115 4stroke 2007 Yamaha for $5400, only problem is its an XL shaft!!! Anyways I'm in NO rush right now and just looking to enjoy my new toy for now!
