I unplugged the two connectors from my powerpack and one of them is full of black oil. The top of the motor is dry. Can this be coming from inside the powerpack? This can't be good. Motor is a '96 J150EXEDB.

Are you sure that is oil and not some sort of corrosion protection or something? What does it smell like? Or better yet what does it taste like :D That seems really strange to me yet very interesting.

It could also be some type of di-electric grease as you said.

Re: My powerpack is leaking?

That was my first thought too, that it might be some sort of protective goop. It's black and liquid. The other terminal is perfectly clean and dry. In the 5 years that I have owned the motor I have never unplugged the powerpack. I figured I would post it just in case anyone else has seen such a thing. I guess it's an official mystery now.

Boobie, to answer your question, motor runs great. Well, no ignition problems anyway. I am stripping the motor because of a cracked block. This is the same motor where I was asking for machine shop recommendations on my other thread.

I figured I would start a new thread about the crack and the rebuild once I get the motor opened up.

jcw, I remember the thread. I believe I mentioned water in # 1 cyl. Let us know what you find when you get it torn down. Good Luck !!
