Just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone for their contributions to this forum! This board has provided a wealth of information to a first time boat owner.

Back in June, I purchased a 1979 Chrysler 30 hp outboard. It ran decent enough or so I thought. I've had a few issues, although frustrating at times, were easily resolved.

Since purchase I've...

changed gear oil
replaced impeller
installed tell tale
replaced spark plugs
inspected fuel pump diaphragm
inspected/set points
decarbed
converted from tiller to remote steering/controls
installed tiny tach
replaced fuel lines
installed inline fuel filter between pump and carb
rebuilt carb

I just finished getting the carb back on and wow what a difference. Thought I was wasting my time as the carb seemed pretty darn clean inside. But there must have been some blockage because after doing an initial setup it's idling much better and seems to rev smoother. Can't wait to get it out of the can and on the water!

So once again, a big thanks to everybody that helps to make iboats a newb boaters best friend!

Is this pisser used to flush motor?
I have had so many problems getting a good flushing with the earmuff types. I even get high temp alarm when I am at an idle for to long. I gas it and alarm goes off in about 5sec.

the pisser ( or tell tale as we call it ) is there to show you that the water pump is working and you have cooling water being pumped round the engine, best to fit one really.

if yours is sounding the overheat alarm, then best you drop the leg and change the impellor, as it sounds like its worn, so a few bucks spent now will save you loads in the future.

These motors for some reason dont seem to like Muffs ..best to stick it in a barrel ..you can have water circulating but not reaching all parts of the head hence the alarm...pisser from the top of the head ensures sufficient cooling ..see photo ...

Cali if your having trouble, you should start your own thread. They get upset when you hi-jack a thread.
U need to make sure that the impeller and pump are installed right and the pump housing is not wore out.
Not all muffs are ok to use on an 86/85 Start your own thread and fill out the profile. You might be close to someone who can help.J
