My 140 build is still in the thinking stage but its not going to be a normal build, I want to hot him up a bit for another hull, purely a go fast clown around boat , questions and advice for this motor
140 has elec ignition which seems reliable enough, Im interested in building a tuned exhaust not in traditional stacker manner I’m talking a custom made alloy exhaust that will come out the bottom of the cover and run down against the leg to same depth as standard exhaust,
I want to omit the factory water pump and either run an electric pump mounted in the splash well or fit a pulley to top of flywheel and run a mechanical pump.
Ill match port the intake manifold to the gaskets might do a bit of cleaning up inside the manifolds..
I will balance the crank, fitting new conrods with heavy duty rod bolts, Wiseco pistons, play around with the carbs,
I have considered taking 5 inches out of the leg and create a 15 in shorty,
Rebuild the gearbox and fit a new stainless go fast prop
Im hoping it will push the tunnel hull Im going to build at close to 100 mph
There other tricks the old time Stacker racers used to do, I just want to really stretch the friendship with the old 140 and go against the theory that a Chrysler can’t eat an inline Merc, throw your thoughts good or bad at me, as I said still in head scratching stage.

there is now way a Chrysler can push any hull 100 mph - 65 if your lucky - they just don't have top end like a Merc. And this is coming from a Force/Chrysler fan.

Many chrysler team race boats would go close to 100 mph but sadly that couldn’t get that majical past the 100 mph mark, it was put down to chrysler not wanting to do any improvements to the old 4 cyl, imagine a 6 cyl Chrysler they would have flown,

Ill add my dad in the late 1970s used to social race, his boat was a locally made ha8nes hunter v16r it was custom built for the Darwin to Dili East Timor boat race it had a 135 Chrysler and in its day was the fastest thing in the NT that boat did 80 mph flat knackered and it was the scariest time of my young life sitting down the back next to that Mopar in full flight, he hit a big green sea turtle one day it took the gearbox clean off and in 1978 it cost then 2,500 bux to repair it , a lot of money for a copper with a house and 4 kids, a little while later he ran over a rather large salt water croc in Darwin harbour that did further damage and a reef at low tide took the skeg off it, it wasn’t until our nieghbour came home with the first 200 hp Johnnyrude V6 did dad lose his title but that was only by two boat lengths, he owned a couple more Chryslers after the green meany was sold, my first was a 70 hp Skier that wouldn’t pull the skin off a custard, Ive owned 10 Chryslers since I just love them, but I live in hope one day I’ll work one up that will outdo dad’s race days, mind you at 50 and with one and a half legs I haven’t lost the bug, it’s got worse lol

A man named Bill Edwards from Maryland averaged 90 plus mph in his race days, race motors of the time worked to buggery and they never liked to say how they did it lol the stacker 150s were fast n now real rare but not all stackers were 150 s

I think it was in 1984/6 they put a stock 85 on a small boat and it went 85mph.

FrankA (rip) hotted up a couple. He ported and polished the intake and exhaust ports and said it added 5hp(??)

Good luck.

Jerryjerry 05,
if l remember correctly Frank was not impressed with the small improvement in speed for the amount of work required,
may have even been a negative result?

l was active here under a different username ( can't remember what it was now! ) at the the time
