Ok, now that we had a warmer day (40s!) I decided to get some work done on my boat, that I bought last winter. I just bought a house so I'd have a place to work on the thing, and I'm itching to see what I've gotten into.

My pics are at:

Summary of Day 1:

Got the portside stuff out, plus carpet, plus an add-on fridge. Found out the sole over where the fuel tank was replaced is loose! Pulled it up to discover a foamed in place tank. Edit: The foam is all crunchy and dry so far. So far so good, I guess. It's still got to come out.

The only rotten wood I found was under the forward settee seat.. one rotten board. At least this thing seems to drain ok, except for when the drains are frozen (see pics)

Opinions wanted on the condition of the fuel tank and next steps to take :)

I'm emotionally prepared to have to gut the hull and replace stringers (hopefully not the transom.. that's supposed to be solid glass) but Ive got my fingers crossed..

Thanks,
Erik

Day 2:

No new pics (maybe later) but I've got the icebox and sink out, and most of the foam off the gas tank. It's starting to look like some PO foamed under the decks after he got the boat. The gas tank, however, was original... it still had a sea ray sticker on it dated 1972 (I was born in 1970 :)

I'm going to have a couple friends of mine with long boating experience come over and tell me how to deal with the tank, and possibly drain it. It's a 62 gallon tank according to the sticker, and I'd probably replace it with a 52 gallon vee hull tank (I presume this one is vee on the bottom.. I can't see yet).

So far, so good. Lots of work to do yet.

Erik
