My rebuild

Im in the process of rebuilding my 50hp Force. I got it all torn down today and ready to go to the machine shop, but im scared of the bearings. Could someone please give me some guidlines on what to look for when inspecting the bearings? My rod bearings on the big end seemed pretty loose, they had a good bit of side to side play. The center main bearing and the top main bearing also have a good bit of play. I guess I would just like to know how much play is too much!
