Boy am I pissed and thought I better write here before sending off email to the manufacturer of my refrigerator! Thanks for letting me do this.

In October I bought a new stainless steel side-by-side with the ice maker and ice and water dispenser on the door, the nightlight, etc. Real nice looking appliance. Had it delivered the middle of November. Plugged it in and the dispensers and front light did not work. Called for service. Was scheduled. No one came on the appointed day. Called them the day after and they told me they tried to call, part not in for the machine, would come the following week. Following week they call to tell me the part is backordered and will not be in till December 23. I am fuming because no one looked at the appliance to tell what part was needed!

December 24th I get a call that the part will be shipped January 3 - so much for using the ice and water dispenser, water filter, etc over the holidays!

Part arrives on the 3rd, can't get in touch with customer service till the middle of the 5th - line is busy every time I try (about every 5 minutes). Can't schedule repair visit till today (7th). Service man comes - problem is not part, it is wiring, have to get me a new refrig. They will deliver it next week. I am leaving for Ghana on Sunday - to late for me to see it and make sure it works! Would not let me talk to anyone of the "higher ups" - can only write to them! They say they are doing all they can do. I tell them to contact the local dealer and buy one from him - can't do that, I am stuck. "Sorry," they said, "but we are doing all we have to do. We are getting you a new refrig. So be happy with that." Man, I am not happy - they have had my money for 2 months and I have not had the product that I paid for. I will not see it for 6 more months. And my wife will have to deal with these idiots!

I told them they were not servicing me, just doing the minimum they had to do. AAARGHHH. Sorry for the vent - thanks for listening. In 6 months you can all come to my house and get a glass of filtered water with crushed ice - maybe!

Who's the maker? I'm sure someone here can find a number to their corporate office which may help you.

GE! The more I think about it the madder I get! Just fired off a civil email to corporate headquarters. We'll see if there is a response. Then I will let them have it with both barrels!

You may also try to get the place you purchased it to take it back and/or swap.

Does the store you bought it from have any type of satisfaction guarntee? If so take it back since it is damaged and does not work. Get your money back or another one. If they don't have your model in, have them give you the next size up at the same cost. Sometimes the business will work with you. Had a problem with a stove once, I could have fixed it myself, but why? I took it back and got the next grade up for the same price. G

Good Luck...

aspeck,
I'm not sure it this will make you feel better or worse. My brother-in-law bought a stainless steel GE fridge a few months back. The ice/water dispenser didn't work right. After three failed attempts to fix it, the water dispenser still dribbles water out a drip at a time. He never was able to get them to fix it right and they won't take it back. He's POed!

Re: My turn to rant!

I did call my local Lowe's (where the fridge was purchased) and they are calling GE to see what they can do. They do not have any of these models in stock (I knew that, I bought the last one on clearance). They took the information and will get back with me soon - they said they would try to shake things up a little.

Haven't heard anything from GE Corporate office yet - no reply from the email.

Re: My turn to rant!

Just wanted you to know that GE delivered a new refridge this morning. Did not send a service tech to install - no big deal. But shipping co. would not take back the defective one. Called GE, told me to keep it if I could us it the way it is, if not, send them the bill for disposal! It will work great in the basement! Just won't have water hook-up or warranty. No big deal there. Have to install new one - doing that after lunch. Hopefully it will all work!

Re: My turn to rant!

New one is installed and working fine! "Old" new one is in the basement. Old one (about 4 years old that did not match new kitchen) is on its way to the church - they needed a new one.

Yes, I am happy - it took a lot of emails, phone calls, etc. And they made a mistake with sending the new one with no way to pick up the old one. But, yes, I am the winner. I also have a full, extended warranty till August 2005 on the new unit. Even though it was work getting it, GE made up for their mistakes. I am happy again.

$1,295 refridge (Lowe's List price), on sale for $880, after delivery and tax, $989. Now, 2 for that price. Not a bad buy IMO! 'course there was 2 months of fighting with them, but end results were worth it.

Oh, and Lowe's did help in the resolution of this matter.
