So I'm new to the forum and have been searching old threads/posts for any info on buying a used boat. I've found great stuff on what to look for when going over a used boat. Even found a thread (can't remember which one right now) that mentions NADA prices being on the high end and paying below NADA is best--but it was from back in '07. As I input on the NADA webpage the types of boats we're looking at I'm finding that the dealer's and even some private owner's prices are above the NADA prices but at least 2k but actually closer to 5k higher...is this typical everywhere? Been told by at least one dealer that with the Canadian dollar being so close right now to the US dollar he's getting a lot of Canadian's coming down (border is about 3-4 hours away) and buying boats to take home because it's a better deal here than there. I realize that NADA is only a guide, but am curious what other's thoughts are!

nada is almost usless in these times. watch the local craigslist, papers, ads, etc. there are a lot of boats for sale, the problem, most sellers are "upside-down" with their boat loans. they owe more than the boat is worth in todays market.

if you find something you really like, make an offer. the sellers loan company, may work with both of you. they want their $$$ not his boat.
