Mercruiser 3.0LX with Alpha 1 gen II outdrive.<br /><br />I went to drop the lower unit to replace my water pump after I noticed my engine was running pretty hot. When I took the bolts out, and pulled it down, a couple of pieces fell out that I cannot find a home for. It's hard and crumbly.<br /><br />Anyone have some ideas?

Looks like part of an Exhaust Shutter............ <br /><br />You Probably Burnt it Up when you Overheated........

Trying to find a diagram of where this goes. Can anyone help me out? Been on the mercruiser parts website and can't find it anywhere.

I Think you'll find it resides in the upper end of the Down-Pipe......<br />Just After the Riser.......

the newer style flappers need to be square in the y-pipe to work freely.<br /><br />remove the rubber bellows from the riser to the y-pipe and you will find two holes. the flapper mounts in these, but they are offset. pay attention. i have to squeeze the mounting pins with a pair of channel locks to get the pins to bottom.<br /><br />don't run the boat until you replace both.
