Hi. I'm curious about a lot of boats I've seen with very narrow transom cutouts. I'm talking about transoms with engines over 100hp up to 200 hp. The cutout width seems to be less than 2 feet. This is just wide enough to turn the motor hard over both directions, but not wide enough to tilt the motor up while it's turned. Everything I've read says the transom opening should be from 33 to 36 inches wide.

Is this an excepted practice? I assume you have to remember to keep the motor straight fore and aft before tilting it up to avoid damaging it?

Thanks,
Dennis
