Nascar - No Firecrackers For You 400 - Daytona Saturday Night Racing

Second Cup visit for Cup point racing this year for what used to be known as the Firecracker 400 and ahem, the Pepsi 400. The race is Saturday evening, so today is when everything kicks off with X-Men and Cup practices. Since this is being started a little late, X and Cup have had or are about to finish their final practices before qualifying tomorrow, Friday.

Trucks are racing, but not until Thursday evening from Kentucky. MRN's Daytona schedule;



For once a full field of 40 teams, so all starting spots will be filled for the race Saturday night.

News and Notes

• The Twerp is losing his interim crew chief for Daytona. Interim because his regular CC is serving his last of 4 rsace suspension for a wheel falling off of his car at Dover.
• Chase Elliott signed a 4 year extension with Hendrick. HMS needs to hang on to their drivers with Dale Jr. retiring at the end of the year and Kasey Kahne is always rumored to be cut.
• Good news - Aric Almirola has been cleared to start testing in 2 weeks and he hopes to back in the saddle for New Hampshire July 16th.
• Nascar says stage racing is here to stay. Fan opinions don't count, you know, the ones who pay the freight. Expect more mucking with stages for next year. :blue:
• TV ratings down again. 1.9, from 2.2 last year and 2.4 the year before.

Qualifying for the 400 has Dale Jr. on the pole and the rest of the top 12 are, Elliott, Keso, Kahne, Harvick, Stenhouse, Musky's Joey, McMurray, Blaney, Danica, Bowyer and bringing the rear, Johnson.

X-Men hit the tarmac at 7:48 tonight on NBCSN

Some sicko phoned in a bomb threat before practice yesterday. Nothing was found, but still caused heart palpitations.

:eek-new: For the first time since 2013 at Charlotte, a camera on a cable will be hanging over a track. NBC has a different setup and hopefully the cable won't break. At Charlotte the broken cable hit race leader The Twerp and injured several fans. This camera goes from 0 to 70 mph in 1.5 seconds and can move at 100 mph.

X-er's started. And stopped for rain after completing Heat #1 and few laps into Heat #2. Now under red flag.

It's gonna be a long day at Daytona.

5 hours to run 93 laps to see it all end with The Big One bringing out the red flag and overtime. Overtime had an Big One after the leader crossed the restart line and the leader was William Byron for his second X-Win a row, youngest X-Daytona winner and second X-Series win.
