Up to Brooklyn, Brooklyn Michigan that is, for the Trucks on Saturday and the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday. The X-Men are down at Mid-Ohio for a road race this weekend. The schedules for both venues from MRN;

The weather for the Michigan events don't look good for Friday and Saturday, Sunday looks a lot better, not perfect.

The entry list has 44 names on it and Reed Sorenson is on the bubble this week.

News And Notes
  • Nascar is looking at possibly adding another Truck dirt track race. Knoxville Raceway in Iowa has been the rumored track.
  • A few weeks ago I mentioned that Nascar owned ISC was taking over management of the Laguna Seca track in California. Now the current the management/promoter has begun to fight back. The track is county owned and the promoters are asking for intervention by county residents.
  • Indy was the first use of the high down force aero package and many drivers complained about trapped heat in the cars with the package. Michigan is using the same package with higher forecast temps and Nascar has mandated dual air outlets in the right rear window. Another untested rule change. Maybe it will work? Keso predicts more than the usual number of breakdowns from the heat and the aero package.
  • Free food - Little Caesars is giving away free $5 HOT-N-READY Lunch Combos with a 20 oz. Pepsi. See the Little Caesars website for details. Hint, Hint - Jeff Gordon has to win this weekend.
  • Wanna guess about the TV ratings for Watkins Glen.............................................. ...........................Down again!
  • Just found out about another freebie of sorts. When Logono wins a Cup points race, the following WINSday, Wednesday for us normal folk, Shell Saver cardholders can save 22 cents per gallon. Shell WINSday
  • Watkins Glen is repaving and the repave could mean Cup cars could run "the boot" again. This section of the track had deteriorated to the point that Nascar deemed it too bumpy for Cup cars. The track length would go from 2.45 miles to 3.4 miles.
  • On a sad note, as mentioned in another thread, Buddy Baker passed this week. The first driver to over 200 MPH on a closed course and Daytona winner. As he said when announcing inoperable lung cancer last month - "Do not shed a tear. Give a smile when you say my name. I'm not saying goodbye. Just talk to you later,"

The Watkins Glen winner was Gear Grinder 3. He got his 1st :first: of the year. Congrats,

FlaCowboy is still leading the pack in the overall standings. aspeck chipped away at his lead a bit, about 300 points separate the two now.
Get your changes made before the race on Sunday and good luck.

Humpty - Your free food finder (if Gordon wins) and cheap gas finder (if Joey wins). :joyous:

That was an impressive qualifying round, I really wish they would stay away from the group qualifying, JGR, 1,2,3 and 6, that is a great finish for those guys.

The group qualifying is more about strategy than just driving the wheels off of the car. The 1 - 2 - 3 is the first time for Gibbs. 6th place was a cherry on top,

Kenseth did take the top spot, followed by Hamlin, Edwards, Dillon, Stewart, Busch, Harvick, Johnson, Earnhardt, Jr., Logano, Kahne, and Bowyer. Sorenson didn't make the cut.

I was debating one of my picks prior to the race - it was Hamlin or Kenseth. So far it was not the right choice.

KyB sure can move through the field.

Earlier this week I did see Almirola's cars on display in front of our local Meijer's store (walmartish store). Boy it would be fun to give one a test run.

Hamlin is still staying near the front, although Kenseth has been the class of the field so far.

I figured Shrubby would be doing one of his patented back to front drives.

A few years ago I saw one of Smokes car at a HD. Boy are they small!

And Tony just spun,

Edwards just made a big mistake trying to save fuel.

No free chow or cheap gas for you this week.

Kenseth takes the checkers and sam60 wins FL - I think. FL froze with 1 lap to go. :blue:

Hey Osby...was that QC or FC in 2nd...? :noidea: :D

I just hate it when FL freezes.

It was a fair race...this new rules package has everyone but JGR teams behind the eight ball. David Ragan spun on the first lap...JJ spun later...Boyer just messed up :frusty:

Congrats Sam...:thumb:

Your coffee is gonna be stone cold, 64. LOL

I was listening to MRN and had FL up along with the Live Leaderboard. All three were on different laps. I understand MRN being behind in case an obscenity is blurted out, but you would think the Nascar things would be in sync. I'm seeing the the checkered flag on the Leaderboard and FL was still playing catch up. Then it freezes on lap 199.

Well, FL saw through my little ploy to push sam60 off the podium. :blue: The official results confirm sam as the latest weekly winner. Sam now has a :first: for winning Mighigan. I think that's his first weekly win this year. Congrats, sam60!

FlaCowboy is still standing on aspeck's shoulders for the overall lead.

Coming up - Night racing at Bristol for all 3 series and a weird schedule.
