Navigating a lake full of jugs

Well yesterday I was out crappie fishing did pretty good but get really annoyed with all the jugs that had been put out. Alot of people jug fish around here and I really do not like it. It makes it very dangerous to navigate-especially at speed and when the wind is up (you just can't see them until it is too late). I am fortunate I have not gotten tangled up in them yet but I am sure I will. There was one string yesterday that was at least a mile long.
When your going 50 plus mph in wide open water and you see this last minute you really have to be on your toes.
It is a legal means of fishing but they are very annoying. Just venting a bit:D

Sounds like the law is a little looser there than here.

In Iowa, you are limited to two jugs with a maximum of two hooks per jug and must keep them in your sight. You can either fish with one jug and one pole with line or two jugs and no pole. Individual lakes may, at their discretion, ban jugging.

OK, checked MS law and you're allowed 25 jugs. A couple of guys jugging legally could sure clutter up a lake.

I was with rbh there for a bit...I was kinda hoping you posted pics!

Running thru Jacksonville, Fl is the same way. The crab traps are like mine fields. The jerks who constantly move them around allow them to go into the channel and you can't see the styrofoam floats until the last minute, especially when they're covered with algea. It sucks...you have to run 20 miles at 10 kts just so you don't spend the next 20 minutes diving the boat to unfoul a prop.

I'll get some pics next time i'm out. As far as the law--far as I know there is no limit but you have to have a name on them and can't leave them out for more than 24hrs (I think).

Guess that's not the place to run 50+ since it's apparently not 'wide-open' ...

lipp there are only 3 chilly jugs that now come to mind, the bar freshly poured, and now fishing jugs used in the time before ice forms and the morgue.

which one you talking about???

I slow for all jugs when I see them. Even ones that turn out to be flotsom. But I prefer the unsupported ones:D
