For years I have battled with the system of lifting the motor on a 25hp, 2-stroke Merc when I want to go into the shallows, and reaching over the side of the boat, behind the motor to release the catch is tough. So I got to thinking and came up with a idea that works, and works VERY well......and makes the whole job TONS easier. Very easy and cheap to make.
Lift the motor and tie a string around the "jaws" that catch the tilt pin.
Run the string between the motor and transom and tie a washer to the end.
When your in the boat, simply pull the string and it releases the catch, lift the motor...that easy, no more reaching over the back of boat, and having to reach back up and grab the motor to lift it. Try it and post what you think.
