I have a 2000 130 johnson looper. To make a long story short, the block is defective{porous}The back of the water jacket around the#1,#4 cylinders is the real bad spots. My local dealer admitted that omc did have some problems with some castings that year, but its out of warranty and johny wont make good on it.A brand new block is somewhere between$2000-$3000 dollars.Does anybody Know where I can get a remanufactured{bored & honed}ready to go block? My engine has only 150 hrs on it,I figure I can use my crank and rods and just go for a set of pistons{overbore}Thanks for any help!

Re: Need a block

Hootchie,
Is it just leaking or are there large gaps in the casting? I know they sell a sealer for castings to make them liquid tight. I have used some for a junction box we make for army tank turrets. I have had leakers when filled with only 6lbs of nitrogen and after using the sealer they do not leak at all. You may want to talk to someone at a casting house as this may work for you and would be a whole lot cheaper.

BillH,
No there arent any gaps at all,Do you think a good epoxy {like marine tex}would hold up to the heat and expansion,I might give this a try before I rip things apart,A thin layer all around the back of the water jacket. Thanks for the response

Re: Need a block

There's this wonderful product called JB Weld. I've fixed engine blocks, motorcycle crankcases, and know of one marine dealer that uses it to fix cracked exhaust manfolds. I also know a car dealer that has used it to fix erosion on Dodge Neon heads that occurs when a head gasket goes. I think this would work great for your application and problem.

bowhuntr

I don't know if epoxy will work...I think JB weld would but you have a porousity problem. They have stuff that you can just brush on and it will seal the casting. If you want I can get the name of the stuff tomorrow. I know it makes real porous castings sealed up quite well.

Bill H,
It would be a great help if you could find out the name of that brush on casting sealer and where I could get it.Its worth a shot before I pull the thing apart. If its leaking in some other places that I cant see, like deep in the intake ports than Im out of luck I guess. Thanks to you and the rest of the guys for all your help!
