I priced a new starter online and they wanted 189.99 went to autozone and they want 59.99 for same looking srarter is there a differance in boat and car starter

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Yes, there's a very important difference...

The Marine starter is ignition protected...

YOu can find marine starters everywhere for 120-150, DON'T use an auto starter if you value your life. And before buying it, check access to see if you can reach the bolts under the rear of the engine that hold it in...

... or add in: look at having the current one rebuilt at a local parts shop. LOTS cheaper if they can do it.

Buy the autozone starter and gut it. Gut yours too. Swap in the outer field, the armature, and bendix drive. Leave your oringinal solenoid, end plate, and seperator plate intact, that is what makes it marine. $59, some labor, and a good safe starter.
