Where can I find a weatherproof enclosure in which to mount a stereo? The one listed on iboats is the same one that West Marine has in their catalog and all but one of the reviewers basically called it a cheaply built piece of junk...Plus..the thing is $60. I'd pay that if I had a little more confidence going in. It appears to be just the size/shape that I'm looking for but I'm a little leery after reading the reviews.
Anywhere else to look? I've tried ebay with every configuration of words in the search field but haven't found anything. I just don't have any place to in-dash mount the thing.

Re: Need a stereo mount/enclosure

Very true, Mark's Joy...and I wouldn't mind paying that if it is a decent quality piece. The reviews had me a little concerned.
this is the one at iboats
http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...arch_in_category=t&view_id=5964&page_number=2
$66 + 10 or so freight....hmmmm
Thanks for the Best Buy tip Ken R..I'll check there tomorrow.
I intend to mount it on top of the dash...or do you call it a "dash" in a boat? Anyway...you get the idea.

Re: Need a stereo mount/enclosure

don't know what type boat you have. but on my bowrider, i wanted to keep the glove box, so i mounted VHF on dash over glove box, and stereo in the side panel of the walk thru, just below the bottom of the glove box. used one of the "water proof" covers. work out great.

Re: Need a stereo mount/enclosure

My boat isn't open bow so I'm pretty much confined to mounting it on the dash. I found the same Poly-Planar mount at Cabela's for 39.95. For that much I'll take a chance on it. Had been intending to place a Cabela's order anyway.

Thought I'd post a follow-up. Received the Poly-Planar WC-40 enclosure today. It's surprisingly heavy and seems to be well built. I think it's gonna work just fine. Gonna look pretty cool too.
