Need advice : 1986 15HP Evinrude

how do i install a kill switch on my 1986 15hp Evinrude? It is the model with the stop button on the tiller but without the lanyard. I like to have a button with lanyard on the motor so that I can still use the tiller with an extension. There is already an empty hole on the faceplate next to the lean/rich knob which is covered with a stopper
the universal kill switches mostly come with a red and black line, what do I connect them to? I have located the wires under the cowling coming from the Original stop button. Can I splice those and put a MOB Switch in parallel? and , when engaged what does the stop Button on the tiller do : close or open the circuit?

You can simply connect your new safety lanyard switch in parallel with the existing stop button.
Some have normally open and normally closed contacts. Choose the pair which are open when the clip is in position and close when it is pulled off.

( one of the stop button wires is connected to "ground" If you can locate the point where it is grounded you can connect one wire for you new switch to the same point to save making two splices)
