My folks have a 1998 Lund Pro V 1900. I've been driving the boat around since I was a kid, but as a family we never really took great care of the boat (left it on the lake all summer, no cover, but winterized and stored in a garage all winter). The boat is solid but the appearance is pretty rough. Lot of black on all of the surfaces. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm planning on being responsible for the boat. I'll have to post some pics in July next time I visit. I'm going to be cleaning up all of the black molded vinyl, and trying to get everything else as clean as possible. The carpet should be replaced though, along with one deck board under the driver's seat.
There is a lifetime warranty on the decking. We took it in a few years ago for a rotted deck board, and they spent ALL summer on this one rectangular board (we thought they might be doing all of the deck boards at that rate). In any case, we currently plan on having the deck board under the driver seat warrantied as well.
Now, here at the bottom is where I'm looking for advice. Ideally, I'd like to have all of the deck boards replaced considering that we're now up to two that have rotted out. I just don't know what Lund is and isn't willing to do in this situation. I'm not sure what the criteria is that allows us to ask for a new deck board (my foot sinking into the floor behind the driver seat seems obvious though). The carpet is my only other goal here, but not sure what I'd be getting into.
Here are some of my questions.
How easy are these deck boards to remove? I wouldn't mind recarpeting the ones that haven't rotted out (assuming we can't get them warrantied). Are the screws accessible? Are they under the carpet and inaccessible? I'd check myself but, I'm not at the boat right now. My folks apparently have a 20ft roll of the proper mfg provided carpet for our boat. If it's easy enough to remove those deck boards, I guess I could just take care of that. Seems easy enough but requires moderate time and effort.
Next, I've also heard that Lund can just have a dealer send out a pre-cut deck board with carpet on it for the customer to just replace. Has anyone done this? Maybe that's a different option we can look at? Can we just tell Lund that some (all) of our boards are needing to be replaced under warranty and have them just send us the boards with carpet on them? Heck, even if it was just the one under the driver seat, I'm just thinking that I could have it done faster (day or two) than the repair shop took (4 months). And hey, if they'd be willing to send out all of the deck boards with carpet, then I don't have to worry about stripping old carpet and messing around with adhesive and whatnot.
