The first one for sure. It tells what it's all about without even reading. I'd make the "better prices, better quality" larger and maybe a different color. And get your web address on there. Remember, your potential customers are driving by at 30 MPH...... or more.

Ditto , Number 1 , get your money back from the guy that designed number 2.

Also in the winter you could always change to a snow theme with the slogan " Wife upset ? We will plow the drive for her better and faster than you ever have" This should help your income in the slow winter months .

Re: Need advice for my biz.

You live in CT, you have 4 seasons, do you offer work to the customers for all four seasons????
I think you need the generic sighnage, unless you have a large advertisment budget.
probably could add in the future when you have more clients, irrigation plumbing, tree trimming ETC
DIVERSIFICATION (sp) :D

Re: Need advice for my biz.

They are both good BUT, take the info out of #2 and add it to #1.

because #1 tells me you do lawns at a good price for a good job, (nice picture too..appeals)

#2 tells me you do a whole lot more than lawns....so what do you actually do??

That's is what has to go on it, because I DO need someone to cut my 150m hedge, 3 times per year, and I want a good job for a good price.(fact). You wouldn't have got a call from #1!!

Everything is driven by price, so "Better Prices, Better Quality " is good. Keep it. It is critical.

Once you get your foot in the door, then you can give concessions eg every 5th cut is free, or something.

Cheers
Phillip

i can't change the color on the first one but i can change the font colors and sizes.

Re: Need advice for my biz.

Keep it VERY simple. People can't read much driving by.

Re: Need advice for my biz.

I would use the top sign but get rid of the clutter at the top and just have grass as a background.

I would also consider using a easy to remember phone number or email, something like "greengrass@yahoo.com" or 1800-GOGRASS.

Good luck

#2 would be OK as a print ad, but #1 is definately better as a lawn sign. I agree with the points made earlier - when considering something that people will get a fleeting glance of, less is more. Make sure your name and phone # are in large letters.

Re: Need advice for my biz.

An old friend of mine used to design billboards for a living. I believe that he said 8-10 words on a billboard is all that a driver has time to read. He also indicated that although you may not be able to see it from the highway, all of the print should have a contrasting border to make it standout. So, like white letters with a thin black line around them.

Put on the sign that ALL workers are documented and speak english. It shows your business is honest and people like that.

Re: Need advice for my biz.

If you want your sign to stand out to motorists driving by I don't think that printing grass on it (Sign #1) and placing it on a grass lawn will work too well. It will blend into the lawn. What we are looking at on this site is a green sign on a white bkg. Pretty nice for a mag ad, but imagine that same sign in the middle of a lawn.

Try the second one w/o the circle graphic, center the type & make it bolder. Ditto on the helvetica, it has a bold version. Maybe add the grass at the bottom of your images to the bottom of your sign. That graphic alone will tell folks it's a landscaping ad and won't distract them from the sign's true function.

This day and age I'd focus on your web address more than the phone #.

Wow....reading all the posts reminds me of the old advertising days, when every client thought they had the best slogan, and eye catcher...LOL

For what my 2 Canadian cents are worth, the old adage of KISS should apply.

ZKS Lawn Service says that you service lawns i.e. cut grass. It does not imply hedges, snow removal or any other service you want to offer. Therefore you must explain just what you do, and fast.
Something like this:

ZKS Lawn Service

AND MORE !!!!!!

860-539-2174

or
ZKS Lawn Service

MORE THAN JUST GRASS

860-539-2174

For every member of iBoats, that's the number of opinions of what is appealing or the best, so I won't add too much. I like both, but for different reasons.

Only thing I would recommend, with whichever sign, is use yellow for the font color, with the black outline. Yellow draws the eyes to it.

btw, I like eastont's "More than just grass" tagline

Re: Need advice for my biz.

Both look great if I were to pull over, stop, and read it or if they were a business card. If I'm driving by at 30+ mph I'm not going to get much out of either one. What you need is big, gaudy, and readable in a flash. The phone number ironically does not have to be huge. If someone were actually going to need the phone number they would stop to read it, in which case they can see easily see it if it were slightly smaller. The name of your business, and the quality of the lawn the ad sits on are what counts. When I'm flying by all I would need to see is ZKS Lawn Service sitting on an immaculate lawn. When I get home I'll look up your number in the phone book or on the internet. That's how most people do it. The idea is to get your business name stuck in the minds of people that pass by.
