Hello,

I'm interested in purchasing a new outboard
motor for my 14 Boston Whaler. I would like a
40HP 4 stroke motor with a no tiller handle. I
know outboards can be expensive. I don't want to
spend over $4000.00 for one. Does anyone have
any advice on which motor would be the best fit
for this boat.

Thanks,

Wayne

if you want to stay under $4k on a four stroke, check out iboats used motors. they come with a warranty.

Wayne,

Agree with catfish, here's the link.

http://www.boatmotors.com/

iboats offers used engines of which many have factory warranties. I would be careful about buying a new engine and expecting a local dealer to work on it. A used engine is a different story.

On that boat, weight would be a major consideration. Compare weights of two and four stroke engines of the same horsepower rating.

You may be able to compensate, somewhat, for weight differences by moving items around such as: fuel, etc.

i would spend an extra 2 or 3 hundred and get a new yamaha. They have great whieght to power and are nice and quiet they come with a great warranty too. I have had a yamaha 40 for 7 years an all ive had to do was change the plugs. its worth it!!
