Pulled the guage assembly out to replace dash panel. Took pictures and reinstalled them. Tach works, trim guage works, rest will not read. Oil guage pegged at 80, volt meter does not come off Zero, fuel guage reads empty. Checked purple wire going in seris to each guage, have 12 volts. Have all purples going to P on back off guage. Have Black wires going to G, and have grey wire on tach, blue on oil guage, volt has no more wires except blk and purple. Temp guage has tan wire. Main ground on tach. All lights work in all guages. Any way to test each guage?

Ayuh,... On the Voltmeter,...
If you have 12V positive on the purple side of the gauge, 'n 12V negative on the black side of the gauge...
If it ain't showin' voltage, it's junk...

The oil pressure gauge should be 12V positive on the purple post, it should show Nothing, til the sender goes to Ground...
At Full Ground on the sender shows Max...
Ditto the water temp gauge..
Ditto the fuel gauge...

So if I pull off the grounds, it should read nothing....right?

Re: Need advice on guages problem

Update:
Went to Auto Zone bought a cheap volt meter, hooked it up worked fine. So I found a nice set of new gauges Teleflex Black Sterling on ebay for 100 bucks, did not come with trim or volt meter, re wired my gauges as these had the 4 plug back, my old ones had post. Hooked them up and all works now. Found the other two gauges also on ebay to match. Put the volt gauge in last night, still awaiting the trim gauge to arrive. All work, except lost cabin lights, suspect the switch may be bad, anyone ever heard of a three position toggle going bad? Am going to meter check it tonight and bypass the switch to see if it fixes the problem....

Re: Need advice on guages problem

Well it turned out to be two things. The ground for the lights was bumped off when I put the dash back in, and a bad switch. I ran a direct line from the wire for the lights removed off the switch to the positive on the fuse panel. No lights, found the loose ground, re attached, then lights worked. I hooked back to original switch no lights. Tried another switch that was for the under bow cabin lights. Have lights. For know I will have it come on with the cabin lights. Thanks swtooth33...you helped me by chasing the loose ground on the panel. Mine is set up just like yours with the fuses right below the dash. I also have under bow, or cabin lights now. I bought some led light rods, they are 2-4 footers, and 2-3 footers. I am going to try them in the cabin and under the side compartments for more lights!
