I just bought an old 1959 Magnolia 15' "big finned" boat (like '57 Chevy) & love this thing! The old 50hp Evinrude had not been ran in about 8 yrs. Got it running great. Made a run barrell & ran about 45 minutes in it. Never overheat. Runs great. But when I drained the water out of ther barrell, I was shocked at how much oil was left behind! Have heard that these old dinosauers spat oil & was terrible when it came to fuel consumption. Is it normal for this much oil to be in the barrell? Where's it coming from? Is there any seals, etc, that I may be able to replace to make it better, etc, etc? Would like to keep the engine orig to the boat, if possible. Thanks! Ron in Raleigh, NC

That's the goo you get. All the oil that you put in the gas gets burned and spewed out the exhaust... gross eh! That's 2 strokes. The only I thing I do when running my old engines is to use synthetic oil. It's biodegradable and smokes less and makes less of a mess. I just bought 2 jugs at Walmart. Penzoil tcw-3.

Post pics if you could sound like a great boat! Way to go getting the big v4 running. They weigh a ton and take a ton of fuel!

Oh, and at idle is when most of the fuel gets dumped. At WOT more is burned and less is dumped.

If you're really concerned about it, there was a thread a while back about how a guy captured the fuel that was normally dumped out the exhaust and recycled it. You'd have to search the forum for it.
