Im int he process of purchasing a 2 year old used boat from a dealership. Are prices flexable when purchasing? Do they ever come down on pricing with you or bargin at all with newer boats. Please advise.

Ah, your question gets the one answer that fits all boating questions: it depends!

Depends on how much they want to sell it. Do your research and see how much the boat should be worth.

depends...

and not the adult diaper either.

You have a problem, you are in the boat selling season(if you are in North America), if it were fall yeah they will do just about anything, but we are in Spring and they know they sell most of their boats in the Spring so why should they make a deal and lose money today they probably make tomorrow?

But you could have a dealer that wants the boat gone, I think if your dealer doesn't offer you much then you know what side of the aisle they are on.

Do a search and find out the selling price of similar boats and then make an offer, worst he can say is no....something to remember though is resale on boats is terrible, the depreciation is far greater than any car on the road so if he wants to sell he needs to bargain unless he already has it priced to move.

Depends on the boat. Boat prices on nice boats have gone up so much in the last couple years that on a 2 year old boat (depending on what it is) you can get awful close to what you paid for it.

Allow me to ask;

What boat and motor are you looking to buy?

Where are you located?

Whats the asking price?

What is condition of boat? (I hope superb!)

Agreed. I was boat shopping near the middle of last summer and used boats that weren't older than 10 years were tough to find (particularly fishing boats). I went through a stretch where I would call dealers about boats that were listed that morning and they were already sold. That demand kept the price of the used but newer stuff pretty high.

I can vouch for the high prices and scarcity of fishing boats. I have been watching for almost 2 years for the right boat. If you have something over 17 feet long with a steering wheel, motor, trolling motor, and electronics, and its less 10 years old. I am sure that you can do pretty well for yourself if you want to sell. My brother has a tracker boat thats 6 years old and he could sell it today for damn near what he paid for it. I am not saying thats the case for everyone, but it is an indication of what the market is like.

18FT Tracker Targa, 115HP 2Stroke. Asking Price:$22,900 Located in Central Michigan. Purchasing in Northern Michigan. Its in great shape and has little to no use. I take it for a test drive Saturday.

I'd make sure to price that out with options then, might be high unless there is a lot of stuff on it. It looks like you can still buy brand new 2013's for 23K (with a 4 stroke) from Tracker.

is that a new boat? Okay...so its a 2012? I think there's lots of room to move if you show the dealer the webpage I just looked at.

Re: Need advice

Correction: asking price is 21,900*

OK, so you are about 3K under what a new 2013 would cost (site shows me just under 25K with prep and freight for a 2013), and the main difference is that the new one would have a 4 stroke and a warranty. Looks like iPilot is about $500. Do you have to pay sales tax on used boats where you live?

I'd take the pricing for the new 2013 to the dealer you are talking to and use that to see if you can negotiate down. 3K more to have a 4 stroke and a warranty seems like a better deal to me.

Re: Need advice

Up date. I called over 30 dealerships. No one has 2013 models. Only 2014 available
