A little different type of project for here. .. Rebuilding a 1957, 33ft lapstrake Jersey sea skiff and need to redo the fiberglassing on the trunk cabin top. The cabin top was originally canvassed, and years ago it was glassed. It is plywood and about 8ft x 10 ft. The issue is that I don't have a ton of experience in selecting cloth weights, so I'm looking for suggestions. I'm thinking maybe 10 oz cloth ( setting in epoxy). It is not a 'foot traffic' surface, so can I go lighter? Is 10 oz good, advise please.

If youre just looking for a skin, then you can go thinner, especially if you have to wrap edges..8.5oz is pretty easy to work with, and doesnt leave a big print, the print can be filled with a skim coat mixed for fairing. 6oz hardly leaves a print, and a xtra coat or two of resin usually fills it. Even 2 layers of 6oz will wet out real easy, and give a hard shell. Then just sand and paint it for UV protection, and asthetics.

Thank you! That is exactly what I needed. Yes, Just looking for a protective skin. I've done enough glass work to know what I'm doing, and when cloth is in front of me I can pick what I want just fine, just don't know by the 'weight'.
