I have a 24v trolling motor (2 batteries hooked in series?) and of course the 12v cranking battery. The engine is a 1976 Johnson 135hp on an 86' glasstream 17ft angler. What can I do to keep the trolling motor batts charged while cruising. Yeah I can charge them out of the water, but I really want to find a way to charge them by way of alternator from engine. A batt switch would be easy enough but what about the difference in voltage between the cranking and tm batts???

Re: Need advise on batt chargers

Pretty much not going to happen. Your outboard will not put out enough current o make a difference for the little amount of time you have it running. Not going to even talk about the switching necessary to put the batteries in a parallel configuration that your charging circuit is going to need them in to charge them.
