I was just "willed" a 16-foot open bow with 100 hp Evinrude XP engine. Im completely new to outboards and need some help. Is the Evinrude XP 100 a 2 or four stroke engine? Also, is it two or four cycle? Im trying to see what kind of oil i need to buy. Is this considered a good engine and is it enough muscle to pull a 16-footer with a skier. Ive heard the XP was a performance package that actually exceeds 100hp, is that true. Any other pointers or sources of help for this engine would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance for any help provided.

stroke/cycle are the same thing, it is a 2 cycle, to go further, we need model # off the port side transom mount. you need TC-W3 outboard oil. has the motor been sitting for a while with out being run? Read the TOP SECRET FILE.

The 100XP model was made in the 88-90 time frame. It is a flatback model which should put out 10% more hp than the 100 on the decal on the cowling. If it has good compression and was maintained well by prior owners, it should provide you with a good service life. This V4 crossflow line was made for many years and was very popular. Replacement parts are still readily available.
