Can anyone tell me recommended battery requirements for this motor?
It's on an 18 foot center console fishing boat with very little extra electronics, I have a fish finder and a vhf radio.
The one that came with it is wet filled, can I use a maint free type?
Need CCA requirements also-
I went to Walmart and saw "starting batteries" and "combo batteries for starting/running electronics"-
What is the difference?
Thanks

There are basically three types of batteries and for your purposes you would use any of them. 1) Marine starting = intended only for starting and light accessories. 2) Marine/RV Dual Purpose = intended for both starting and moderate to heavy accessory loads. 3) Marine/RV Deep Cycle = intended primarily for "house" battery use where you routinely deeply discharge the battery as you would with a trolling motor for example. You can use a deep cycle for outboard starting even though there are those who advise against it. As for size, if it is the only battery on the boat, then a group size 27 would seem to be in order. My choice for your boat however is a Dual Purpose. You cannot go too big when buying a battery -- just too small

I don't know what year your motor is, my Suzuki 140 hp is a 1989. I just had a rectifier replaced due to batteries not charging.

In discussions with my mechanic (suzuki certified), he recommended a group 27 battery due to the low output of the alternator on these older motors.

Thanks for the info on that.
