I am needing some advice for my boat battery set up.

I have a 20' pontoon with a 90 hp Mercury.

- Using factory stereo (cheap Jensen head unit and two 6.5" speakers) and no plan at the moment to upgrade to a better stereo. When the engine is off we use the radio most of the time...5 or so hours each boat outing. We use the boat several days a week.

- 55lb trolling motor using a 100ah battery. I will sell this battery since it is AGM, and I am considering 31SRM Interstate battery. - We do some night fishing and listen to the stereo, and also keep courtesy lights on inside the boat.

- I am using a 24M XHD and 27M XHD for the starting batteries. At the moment the 27M XHD is just a back up, piece of mind battery.

-I am considering a 3 bank charger. And getting a selector switch for the betteries, but looking for suggestions on this type of set up?

Thanks for your help!

sell this battery since it is AGM

That's different, your selling it because its AGM. An AGM charges faster and provides more amps for the same size bat. now changing to all lead acis bats so one type charger can be used then I understand

Backup bat is almost always a good idea, but don't see a need for a 27 back up with an OB. Now if your going to install a bag amp with the new stereo then maybe.

If the 27 is going in place of the trolling motor then ok

multi bank charger is good

So if it were me starting from scratch, I'd have a group 24 dedicated to starting, nothing else. Then put 2 group 27's (or 31) in parallel for all your key-off draws. (trolling, stereo, lights) You only really need a single charger for that, as your main starting battery won't need to be charged up. Single bank chargers are much cheaper than a 3 bank! (also, you can mix and match sizes when parallel, but not chemistries. Don't parallel the ACM with a VRLA battery.)
