need carb help

i bought a carb rebuild kit for my 1983 mercruiser 140 its a 1389-8490 carb rebuild kit #18-7097 and i figured everything out but the retainer clip that goes in the accelerator pump above the strainer was missing i was wondering if it would be alright if i put it back together without it any info anyone has would be helpful

That clip is what holds the screen in place, and the screen is what keeps the check ball in place. Yes you need it.

is there a good place to find one at like a local hardware store or something nbecause ive tried to find one but icant buy just the clip

can i try to get one from a local hardware store that matches pretty close because i cant find a place to buy that clip
