Is the company still in business? If it is, I'd start there. A lot of old boat(can't remember year plates started) did not have plates! Why do you need one? ;)

pretty sure they are still in business. they were at US1 SW 264th street when i lived there 4 years ago.hope this helps

Personally, I'd give them a call to see if you can get a new one. You might have to give them a picture of boat with copy of boat registration and explaination why you need it. That would be the best way. Why do you need it anyway? Insurance? ;)

I have a 175 on the boat right now and the crank shaft sheared off at the base of the flywheel. A friend of mine has a 235 and I was wondering if this motor would be ok on my boat

Now we're getting to the issue. I would definitely find out from the manufacturer what the rated max HP is. If you over power a boat your getting into issues of insurance (can you get it?) and liability. I you were to get in an accident, some sharp lawyer would check to see if the boat was "grossly" overpowered. Grossly means 1 HP more than Max. :D I would get the 'Yello' plate and not overpower. You'll need it to sell someday and any experienced boater will not buy it...when the time comes. Don't compound your problem.

Don't know if your still looking, but I bought a boat where the tag was mounted on the gunwhale and faded to the point you couldn't read the limitations. The manufacturer told me the Coast Guard supplies the tags and they had none left for my boat (9 yrs. old.)The Coast guard said they only supply the tags to the manufacurer. So I got the weight limit and motor HP numbers from the manufacturer and wrote them in on the tag with indelible ink. The guy at the CG said that would be OK.<br /><br />Jerry
