Re: need definitions of terms

Uhhhhhh they are secret!!

PB Peanut Butter (yes trust me) used as a filler concocted with a recipe found in this section.
PL Polyurathane Adhesive (visit Home depot or any hardware store) which come in a caulking tube
CSM Chopped Strand Mat fiberglass that looks like a mess of fibers not woven together and sold that way
Chemical Bond is because certain resins will react and bond with the older resins
Mechanical Bond is anything mechanical and it also includes epoxy bonds such as epoxy can bond to polyester resin fiberglass however not the reverse

Re: need definitions of terms

CSM is a chopped strand mat, it is a type of fiberglass used between layers of cloth for bonding purposes when using polyester resins, you do not use CSM for epoxy resin applications.

PB or Peanut Butter is a term used for a resin that is thickened using milled fibers and cabosil to achieve a peanut butter like resin to bed stringers, fill gaps etc.

PL is a brand name, of adhesive products, we often refer to PL premium as an adhesive used to laminate woods in boat building because of its poly base and water resistance

chemical and mechanical bonding describes the way parts are joined depending on materials used

hope that helps

Also known as Chopped Strand Mozzarella. This is put on top of pizza when feeding your helper crew.

Re: need definitions of terms

Whats the application ?

YD.

Thanks for the replies. The application to be determined. The story has been heard before... soft wood at the ski locker...corner stepped on, cracking sound... brain says "oh that can't be good"... holein deck where one doesn't belong.

Re: need definitions of terms

More or less this is correct ..

CSM is a chopped strand mat, it is a type of fiberglass used between layers of cloth for bonding purposes when using polyester resins, you do not use CSM for epoxy resin applications.

Yup.. it can be used as small repair fiberglass lams as well.

PB or Peanut Butter is a term used for a resin that is thickened using milled fibers and cabosil to achieve a peanut butter like resin to bed stringers, fill gaps etc.

PB is basically just Filler. You can make it out of many different products. Cabosil, milled fibers, Wood dust, cotton flock, micro balloons, Q-cell, Talc, milled fiber .. etc. It depends on the application of what your using it for.

PL is a brand name, of adhesive products, we often refer to PL premium as an adhesive used to laminate woods in boat building because of its poly base and water resistance

Kinda like 3m 4200-5200 from what I gather.

chemical and mechanical bonding describes the way parts are joined depending on materials used

A chemical bond is when your resin has not completed its curing cycle .. and your wish to add more layers of glass or filler does not need sanding between coats ( sometimes know as Hot/Wet coating .. not Hot Batch Coating.. ).

A Mechanical bond is just application over a Prepped ( sanded/ground ) surface.

I think he has these kind of replies in a work document .. kinda like point and click lol :) .
