I plan to take the boat out of the dangerously low lake while I still can and put it in dry outdoor storage. I have a custom boat cover. Does not cover the 225 Yamaha or trailer tires. Is a $100 Yamaha motor cover a waste of $$? And does anyone cover trailer tires like folks do on motorhomes?

I'd just use (or sew up) a piece of canvas rather than spend $100 for a motor cover.

And yes, in a place like Dallas, I would definitely find a way to cover trailer tires.

If by outdoor dry storage, you mean undercover, I don't think you need the covers. Although a $100 cover for that big engine seems like a great deal.

Trailer tires need to be replaced every 5 years regardless of tread and apparent condition.

By dry storage I understand that to be inside or under a roof at least so the sun wouldn't be on the engine so no cover is needed and with the tires I would worry more about flat spotting them from sitting so maybe block the trailer up.

My bad. The term "dry storage" is the local marina's distinction between a covered in the water slip vs their outdoor trailered parking which is not covered. So yes, the rig will be exposed to the sun and rain.

Then $100 is cheap insurance for the cover. Chances are that with other boats alongside yours, the tires will receive little sun so I would forego the tire covers.

Thank you. I think that is my best course. Any other suggestions for outdoor uncovered parking are welcome. At least I won't have to worry about algea for a season, or paying marina prices for gas.

Provide for air flow under the cover to prevent mildew. This will typically be done by leaving openings in the cover at the bottom that will allow air flow but minimize water intrusion.
