I'm not sure what is happening: If you start the engine while the boat is in the water, does the starter actually turn the engine over? I think you're saying that it's not actually starting, but I'm not sure. Or will it just not idle in the water like it will on muffs?

Once it's runnin' the battery doesn't really matter much. What RPM are you idling at on muffs?

its hard to explain the engine will turn over in the water with a new battery but once I turn it off in the water it wont turn back on when I go to turn ignition it wants to but sound like something is holding it from starting its sluggish. then after a while all you hear is click click click and thats with a new battery and the rpm is currently not functioning theres a short feom the coil to the rpm somewhere thay I got to look for .

Have you had your alternator or your voltage regulator checked?

Not sure on yours. Mine is right on top at the front of the engine.

So, even with a fully charged battery it'll run fine indefinitely on muffs but a few minutes in the water and it's all over? (sorry, I'm not quite getting it yet)

yea it's understandable. with new battery fully chatger it will eventually turn on. like yesterday took it out after trying to turn it on it never did. took battery out of my jeep and it eventually turned on. after riding fir 15 to 20;min parked it for 10 min and it never turned back on..it was tryin for a little bit but never turned on. I thought battery was dead bc that's the way it sounded clicking noises and not even trying to turn over. took battery out put back in the jeep and the jeep fired right up like nothing. when I tried turning it on I had to manually put gas in carb and open the throotle and it just clicked and turned over very slowly. but when I fid eventually turn on it ran perfect. its just when I try to turn it on when in the water it struggles badly trying to turn to a point where a fully charged battery ends up going bad from so much cracking. hopefully u kinda get where am getting at... muffs turns on without a struggle in the lake it sometimes dont turn on..

its like I turn it off after running for a little bit shut it off and it dont want to turn over after that in a lake but if I have it on muffs can have it one fir 30 min shut it off and leave it off thrn it will turn on like nothing on the muffs but on the lake its a different story... something changes from muffs to lake that dont let it turn on. what idk yet.

I'm having a little trouble following you but.......... If the starter is spinning the motor when on the lake but not starting....Do a compression check the additional back pressure of the water is the difference.
If the starter will not spin the motor when on the lake pull the plugs and look for signs of hydro lock ( water in cylinders )

take the spark plugs out and try to start it, if you have hydro lock water will squirt out the spark plug holes, to check compression, screw the compression gauge into the spark plug holes and try to start a few revolutions then read the gauge
