Hi there. Looking to buy a used Johnson/Evinrude 6hp to 8hp, manual start, to use as a kicker for my Sylvan.
I like the size and weight of some I've seen.
I'm guessing my budget will mean I will be looking at something in the 80's or 90's.
I don't know anything about these motors but my primary concern is reliability.
I'll only be using it for emergencies.
It will get started in the spring and in the fall and may not run between that. Although I would give it a good run both those times, and service it well.
I'm assuming these would be CDI or something like that? And that would be better than an older model with points?
I would probably keep some spare electronic components on board so ease of swapping parts out might be important.
Any years to look out for?
