I have a 1988 mercury 9.9. it is stuck in reverse. someone said I needed to repair the cable and pull prop shaft out of the lower to reset shift pin. does this sound right? I'm new to outboards! When I go to drop the foot it is hung up on the long rod that leads from prop to under tha carbs. I dont see how to disconnect it. Any ideas? Do I even need to drop the foot? or just remove the shaft and if so....how?
