Need help finding year of motor

I have a mercury 40 HP 402 with thunderbolt ignition.<br /><br />Serial 4040149<br /><br />I need to know the year so I can buy a repair manual. For some reason water is leaking around the top spark plug. Someone told me it was most a bad gasket or water jacket. Thanks for your help.....

Thanks Unicorn , I was not sure how to read that chart. I think it was 1974 or 1975 i was confussed.

I was told by Sharkcat that he thinks it is a us 1974 year modle. If someone knows for sure please let me know. I need to order a rebuild kit and I want to make sure I have the right one.<br /><br />Thanks
