HELP ME PLEASE:eek: I lost all my trim pump fluid on my 1986 Century. The pump is model SAE J1171...I refilled it and the trim works again however it is leaking fluid pretty good around the 7/8" large nut towards the top of the pump on the side. There are two of these nuts perpendicular one on each side...What are they for?...I am able to turn out the nut about 3 turns and it gets tight, should I continue to back it out with more force so i can inspect under it?...Is there going to be anything behind this nut that is going to pop out in a certain order that I should be aware of? Any info to get me through this would be appreciated.

That was a perfect and detailed, Thanks Soooo much:) I took the nut out and sure enough the o-ring had lost 1/4"...It looks to be a pretty common o o-ring so I will go to the hardware store tomorow and see if I can match it up as I am sure this will take care of the problem. I was sweating the cost of buying a new pump thinking it may be cracked..Now I can sleep tonight and have a little extra money to treat myself to some cold frostys. Thanks again

model SAE J1171

J1171 is actually a spec re:spark arrest for marine use and appears on most marine electrical components on a marine engine and related stuff

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I have the same trim motor and I can see the O-ring on the bolt, where there is one on each side. Did you just unbolt it and then buy a o-ring at the hardware store. I have not begun to unbolt it and wanted some info before I take it off. Thanks

And if it had been posted on the forum, not just kept as a nice quiet little secret, then everybody would have been able to read it and learn from it...

Hey BT, how 'bout you copy that message here and we can all see it.....
