Need help from the yamaha experts!!!

Hi I recently purchased a used 2008 yamaha 90 tlr 2 stroke. A friend gave me an old yamaha tachometer to install on it. He had it on an 87 yamah pro50. Is it possible to connect it to a newer motor. Im not able to attach picture for some reason and will try after I post this question. Unfortunately the colors don't match. The boat has not had guages so I ordered a guage wiring kit 6Y5-83553-N0-00 I know this will connect to the key switch harness and that I will need to run another harness from engine to tach. Im just not sure which harness and if I would need a relay. Any help would be appreciated.
