I am replacing my transom assembly and am about to replace my bellows, (Alpha 1, gen 1). I have always put the bellows adhesive on both the inside of the bellows AND the metal lip. After drying, I put another coat on the inside of the bellows, slide it on and clamp it.

In reading through my manual I notice it simply recommends putting the adhesive on the inside of the bellows, and none on the metal lip that I am attaching it to. After it dries, simply slide it one and clamp it.

What is the common practice among you guys who do this for a living? (Or often enough that you OUGHT to get paid for it! ;) )

Hopefully there are no copyright issues here, but here is a picture that illustrates what my book says to do:

To confuse things, here is the instruction from another site:
Coat the "rear" end of the bellows (inside) with bellows adhesive and before the glue dries, push the bellows onto the bellhousing. It should almost "snap" in place when the grooves line up.
Make SURE that they are straight BEFORE the glue dries!

What's your method?

Hell I've always just put adhesive on the rubber and slid it on before it dries. The adhesive will almost act like a lubricant for installing the bellows when it's wet.I've never had one come back on me yet! Actually I've never seen a bellows come free from the mounting points, they always wear out the sides before they can do that. Good Luck
