need help going to the sandy hook reef

hello fello fisherman, will be going to the sandyhook reef in search of the big togs this fall starting saturday morning if the weather allow me to.<br /><br />so can anyone tells me from the tip rockaway of the rockaway jetty is there any real shallow water to look out for going across to sandy hook,??? because right now as soon as my boat gets on plain i lost bottom on the fishfinder, and i dont want to run a bottom, i have gps numbers for the reef so i knew i can find it uh. i hope , also about how much miles from the jetty to gets there,??<br /><br />is it about the same distant going to the rockaway reef from the tip of the jetty??? ok no more ?? thanks. <br /><br />i will post pictures of the big ones lol

bolo, sorry I can't help with the navigation, but you ought to be able to get a bottom lock on plane - if your transducer is mounted on the stern, it might need to be lowered (make it even with the bottom of the hull), or else moved a little further from the prop wash, or maybe a hull feature like a rivet or strake is in front of it creating turbulence.<br /><br />let us know how it goes.

There is a shoal area just inside the jetty, almost due south of Manhattan Beach. That one I know for sure you can see it. There may be more that I don't know as I haven't fished there in a while. You should be all right if you go along the Coney Island flats & then out to the Hook. Your best bet is to look on a chart,(Up to Date), always good to have. Good Luck, Have Fun, Joe

thanks again i know the shoal you talking west off the jetty, thanks . i just dont like that west side of the jetty, so what i will do is past the jetty heading sout then i shoot my waypoint with my gps to the sandyhook reef,

You can also follow Ambrose channel till you pass Roamer Shoal, You can see the Roamer Shoal light. Achart is still recomended, or at a minimum go with some one who's been there before. Joe
