Good evening

We just bought two 1995 Merc outbourds 225hp. What type of prop should we get? We own a 1990 wellcraft coastal 28'. Th boat weighs about 11K. I understand that there is only a slight difference between aluminum and stainless steel props. I dont know the max rpm in the engines are but what pitch would you recomend. Thank you.

Welcome to iboats!

If you contact iboats and speak to them with your specifications they will work with you to find the right props.

The "slight difference between aluminum and stainless" is huge for some people. Use the search function and read up on the pros and cons of them..... then decide.

Welcome!

You'll need to know what pitch & diameter your current props are along with the top rpm with an average load and accurate speed. From there you can determine the % of slip and that's your baseline. Then you'll need to discuss your intended use. Traveling offshore in what could be heavy following seas? Cruising only? And so on. We'll assume one motor has a counter rotating gearcase.

Oh, and the X dimension or height of each motor. That's where the AV plate is (plate right above the prop) in relation to the hull's bottom right in front of each motor when parallel. The AV plate should be no lower than even with the hull's bottom, maybe up some. You'll also need to check the toe-in at the gearcase (propshaft centerline).
