Need help! how to install Gas shocks on boat hatches?

I want to install gas shocks / struts on the hatches but I can not find any info on how to measure for proper fit, what strength (20, 30, 40, 60 lbs)... please help

Since this idea has already been done, you could visit a boat showroom and have a look at how the manufacturers did theirs. And that would also give you an idea about the length and force needed as well. JMHO
