need help id 40hp johnson and no spark

Hi I recently bought a 40 HP Johnson when I tried to fire it I noticed I wasn't getting any spark ok no big deal need a lil work so I looked to a model number to try and get a haynes for my engine but there was none and I work on trucks so I checked the block and found a small silver plug with some numbers on it and any info or advice withholding be more then helpful the numbers are j3453335 thanks

It is newer than a 1969, and older than a 1972. So that leaves 1970 or 1971. There is a huge difference between the two. 1970 has a double wall midsection and came in manual or electric shift. 1971 has a single midsection and came only in manual shift.

By "double midsection" I mean take the hood off and look to see if the whole motor floats on rubber mounts in an outer "shell".
