My 87 champ is bogging real bad hole shot eventually it will plane.
130-135 comp all cyl
all plugs firing
23m yamaha prop
12 gallons fuel
empty live well
I was checking out the stator and trigger and rectifier per the book.
Stator CDI electronics 2400 ohms book says 5400 to 6000 is the cdi ok at 2400
Tigger 1300 ohms
the thing that i cant figure out is the stator is a 1745456-16 and i dont have the high speed advance modules or anything but there is a little box next to where one would be that has a Red wire and Yellow wire going to the rectifier.
Cant see this anywhere in the book.

That's a shunt type voltage regulator. If your battery voltage is good, leave it, it helps battery life. It has nothing at all to do with ignition performance.

hope it helps

Hey PC, a 23" pitch prop is 2 inches or so "taller" than standard, for a light quick boat. If you ave a heavy boat, it may not even rev up. Have you had good performance with it up to now?

Chris its an 18' 4 dual consol. Everyone tells me it should be able to run a 24 pitch. It had a 24 chopper on it when i bought it so no never been better since i got it. I did notice the battery deck is holding whater ill tear in to that and look now that the tank is almost empty again.

Run it across a truck scale, and see what it weighs. It'll be an eye opener.

I turn a 24 inch high five on 1.78 geerz at 6 grand, with a hole shot that'll snap your neck. Boat is 18' dual console with so much battery lead in the machinery space you have a hard time finding a place to stash a spare oil bottle.

It didn't do quite that well when it was wet. The weight was one thing, and I figured it must have been letting the engine tuck a little, because I had to re set the engine after the work. It's mounted on exactly the same holes, but had to be put down a half inch on the jack plate to work right.

You can drill a few holes in the battery deck to see if it's wet. Also put a few into the transom from the inside. You can usually figure out if the transom is wet by tapping on it. The sound will change when you get to where it's wet. If you come up with dry holes, just say thanks and plug them up with epoxy. If they're wet, you found the problem.

hope it helps
