My motor title says 1961, my tag with serial# (2361031) and model# (RDS-25D) dont seem to match up with the year when im trying to look up info and parts... The model# above for 40hp always brings me to 1963. Please help me know what i have so i can get this motor running!

It is a 1963 model.-----Powerhead has been replaced with the Evinrude equivalent as it is a grey paint.----A very good , simple , easy to maintain motor.

There is a location for a belt driven generator and the wires for it.were already in every motor that left the factory.----Do you have the junction box and wiring that mount INSIDE the boat ?

You'll have to bear with me as this is the only boat I've ever messed with. Where do i look for that and is it necessary to run the boat?

Often times folks buy a motor that is incomplete !-----You need to find a junction box or learn to do the wiring modifications to eliminate the need for that junction box.

Where would the junction box be located? And is the junction box for the generator or because it doesnt have it?

The generator was an optional item.-----The junction box was mounted INSIDE the boat on the transom.------A junction box has electric bits and plugs to connect motor to the battery and ignition switch etc.------Motors with a generator had a different cover for the junction box and voltage regulator was in there.-------=Do a complete evaluation of this motor before spending a lot of coins.

Check a manual.------Buy a repair manual if you do not have one.------Study the basic operation of a 2 stroke ( mix oil with gas ) motor.----Study the operation of the magneto under the flywheel.

Why are you concerning yourself with an accessory generator kit? It is not necessary, and most of those motors do not have one.

EDIT: Oh, I just watched your video and understand the question about a gen. But you still don't need one.

Check compression - should run 110+PSI and even across both cylinders. Check for spark using an open air spark tester available at any auto parts store for about $10. Spark should jump at least 1/4" gap with a snappy blue white spark. If you have good compression and spark, then invest in a carb kit and definitely replace the water pump impeller before starting. Check for water in the gearcase. Once this is all done, then you can try firing her up.
