I have recently purchased a boat strictly for the hull and it had a 4cyl mercruiser. There are no real identifying marks other than on the block that says gm14097080. I need to know exact model so I can buy the corect parts needed. Thanks for any help!

Look for a serial number down by the starter. Do you have any pics you can post. Do you know about what year it is? Mercruiser used 3 different 4 cylinders and lots of different configurations over the years.

I'm not sure how to post pics just yet I'm a newbie. However I assume the motor would be a mid 90's model. It's on a 1996 polar skiff with a jet drive outboard.

Actually the motor seems to be a typical Merc. No modifications to the engine. Instead of the drive shaft bolting to a standard out drive it just bolts to the jet out drive... Does that make sense... And to add it doesn't have the heat exchanger... Has the raw water pump instead...
Thanks again

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... It could be the 2.5l Chevy motor used, or more likely the 3.0l Chevy, used more often, 'n longer,...

The 2.5l motor has only a pulley on the end of the crank,...
The 3.0l has a harmonic balancer, 'n a pulley,...
