I have a (1970's)Carter 4 banger that came off a marine 318 chrysler. Model # 3980S. I know it is marine but nothing else. What is the CFM? Done a couple of web searchs with no luck. One said to measure the boar but they didnt have my size listed. Any help? Mark

Re: Need help ID'ing a Carter carb

I just replaced the rochester on my 350 last year, with a new carter. it was rated at 650 cfm and seems to run well. next time I get to the boat I,ll try to remember to get the serial no. off of it. but I would guess anything from 600 to 750 would work OK on a small block...

Re: Need help ID'ing a Carter carb

I have already done a complete rebuild (360 mopar = about 320 Hp).I use a Holley 800 now. This (Carter)carb came with the boats original 318 motor. Looking for cfm to see if it is worth a rebuild for a back up. Anything under 600 cfm and its on its way to the junk pile.
