Need help looking for serial number

I have a 1975 boat. It came with a beautifully clean and running 85 hp 2stroke merc.I was looking for motor specs. Unfortunatly, I can not find the # plate on the unit. I can only find a plate on the monting bracket.<br /><br />~Chris

Hello Chris,<br />I think that you've found it, however there is another one somewhere on the block. It will look like a core plug or freeze plug, it will also have a serial no. to match. Usually this plug will be un-painted bright aluminum.<br />hope this helps,

Thanks almost-retired. The numbers I found did not match anything in the books. But the 85 hp mercs were only avail for 3-4years I think. Right in the year of my boat.<br /><br />~Chris
